Chlodwig Pullmann is a tax inspector and is involved in a thousand little deals and tricks - with the knowledge of Mayor Karsten Leimer, who has a lot more dirt on him. Pullmann's wife Jenny, on the other hand, fights against corruption in a citizens' initiative and is of course not allowed to know anything about her husband's deviations. When Pullmann gets a new superior who keeps a close eye on him, things get tight - and in order not to jeopardize his marriage, he decides to go straight. The only question is whether he will succeed.

On the run from her criminal Italian husband, a young French woman meets a German lover in West Berlin who offers her shelter but who also gets entangled in her threatened life ever deeper.

One man interacts with an invisible orchestra, another one is stuck in a bin.

Nama, a teenager from Mali, has crossed desert and sea for his freedom. When Nama is injured in a fight, an old man named Willi lets him move into the house that he used to share with his son Stefan. The father and son have not spoken for years and the three men may have little in common, yet what binds them together is their search for a home where their wounds from present and past can heal.

Since losing her family, a woman is living alone in the wilderness — far away from society, which is dominated by mistrust and fear after the outbreak of a fatal disease. When she is forced to leave this life behind, she not only experiences a boundless freedom, but also remembers the importance of human closeness and the feeling of belonging.
